Biography

Toni Mello is an early-career theatremaker, manager, and writer with a passion for collaborative generation. As a genderqueer and neurodivergent individual, they seeks to amplify femme, queer, and neurodivergent experiences onstage, especially through documentary and verbatim theatre techniques.

 

Toni began working with AnomalousCo Theatre Company, Artistic Directors Kathryn Syssoyeva, Diana Zhdanova, and Jeremy Gorn, on "Zebra 2.0" by Savianna Stanescu, a production at the New Ohio Theater's Ice Factory Festival 2023, as Assistant Director and Assistant Stage Manager. They became and continue to love being the Development Associate for the company. Other recent credits include assistant directing "Thunderbodies" by Kate Tarker, dir. Jack Terrill, assistant directing "The Wolves" at Pace University, dir. Debbie Saivetz, and stage managing for "The Cherry Tree" dir. Emma Schwartz at the American Theatre of Actors.

 

They will be graduating from Pace University, from the International Performance Ensemble program, with a B.A. in Directing and a minor in Biology in the spring of 2024. The International Performance Ensemble program focuses on project-based devised theatre training, including the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq. Their studies also included a semester at the Institute of the Arts Barcelona in Sitges, Spain.
